Modern Wine Racking in a Gorgeous Under Stair Wine Cellar
When you think about wine storage, most people probably imagine a traditional wine cellar with circular casks and wooden racks. To be ahead of the curve, your home wine cellar needs to match the sophistication of today’s modern wine racking designs.
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, a member of the Wine Cellar Designers Group, recently built this modern wine cellar under the stairs in a gorgeous San Diego home. It features modern wine racking composed of metal rods with wooden accents, and industrial strength split system cooling unit from US Cellar Systems, and adjustable LED lighting.
Alder Wood Wine Racking for a Contemporary Wine Cellar
If you want to create a modern wine cellar, metal wine racks are the ideal option. This wine cellar comes with modern, industrial-style metal wine racks. The team used a ½-inch stainless steel rod for the metallic parts. It has a glossy finish, contributing to the wine bottle display’s sophistication and elegance.
The sleek and refined look comes from its alder wood component. Alder wood can look metallic if the right stain is applied, making it an excellent building material. The dark finish makes this project’s Alder wood look modern and metallic, a perfect wine rack for displaying wine bottles.
Modern Wine Racking Layout Plan for the Under Stairs Wine Cellar
Building a wine cellar under your stairs is a great way to expand your storage space. It is vital to select the correct height of the wine rack. The horizontal racks offer flexibility and are excellent if you want to display your wine bottles on shelves.
This modern metal wine racking consists of horizontal racks three bottles deep. You may choose from various wine racking options that vary in bottle depth from 4 to 5 bottles deep. The 3-bottle deep racking is favored for this wine cellar, as it can already hold a large number of wine bottles. Furthermore, it would be too difficult for the client to reach the innermost bottle if the racking was deeper.
The LED strip lighting is positioned between the horizontal shelves in the modern wine cellar racks. The LED lighting highlights the reveal racks and wine bottle labels. This lighting makes the lovely wine bottle labels look fantastic and beautiful, making them efficiently and effectively light and add mood to a contemporary wine cellar.
At the bottom of the modern wine racking system is an area for storing cases. And at the center of this wine cellar is a small area with a white acrylic LED back panel. From here, the client can decant his wines or display extra wine or alcohol bottles.
An Efficient Minimalist Cooling System Fitted Into The Glass-Doored Wine Cellar
An appropriate cooling system is necessary because glass has a low insulation value and doesn’t retain the same temperature inside and outside the wine cellar. This causes a difference in temperature between the two sides of the glass door, making the team install an RM4600 split-type cooling unit from US Cellar Systems.
Although the cooling units are bulky, the only visible part is the vent from the soffit for this wine cellar. The evaporating unit was cleverly placed inside the soffit above the ceiling. In addition, the cooling unit was positioned outside the wine room, ensuring a no noise disturbance atmosphere inside. Another modern aspect the team incorporated into this wine room is a cooling unit that generated little noise. Split-type systems are great for small modern wine cellars.
The Efficient Method in Maintaining Wine Cellar Temperature
The team finished running the cooling unit’s copper lines and then installed a 3 ½ inch foam spray application to prevent water droplets from forming in the wine cellar wall cavity. Water droplets inside the walls can adversely affect the humidity in the wine cellar, which may result in molds growing. Molds in your wine cellar will negatively affect the quality of your wine.
The team also added extra sealing to the wine cellar door. These seals, together with the pivot hinge’s sealing capacity, guarantee that the wine cellar is effectively protected from outside changes in temperature and humidity.
Placing most of the cooling parts into the soffit and outside of the wine cellar also greatly influenced the ideal temperature and humidity in the wine room. With the primary motor moved away from the wine cellar, the heat generated by the motor is avoided inside the wine cellar.
A State-of-the-Art Glass Door to Showcase The Modern Wine Racking System
The aesthetics are the first thing to consider when building a wine cellar under a set of stairs. What kind of design will showcase your wines and your taste?
There are many options to choose from, but one of the most modern and elegant designs is an understairs wine cellar with glass doors. The client wanted to build a contemporary home wine cellar under stairs for this project. She wanted to maximize the bottle count in her wine cellar while prioritizing its visual appeal.
The glass door for this wine room is a 1/2-inch tempered glass paneling. Both pivot and regular hinges were utilized to ensure that the door looked fantastic and operated efficiently. The pivot hinges feature a self-closing mechanism and have better sealing power than other hinges.
This beautiful design showcases the bottles while protecting them from sunlight and dust exposure. An understairs wine cellar with glass doors will provide an elegant design that will surely leave a good impression.
