Their primary reason for the wine cellar was so that they could have a space to gather with their family and friends and enjoy the luxuries of sipping wine and smoking cigars. It takes a lot of team effort to build and finish a beautiful custom wine cellar project. The master builders from Coastal were able to plan into detail the best quality materials and a well-engineered interior design to create this stunning wine cellar with cigar humidor in Newport Beach, California. First, an actual site inspection was made in order to visualize the space and what needed to be structured. The house already had a beautiful existing contemporary ambience, so it was appropriate to incorporate that into the design for the wine cellar so as to complement the rest of the house. Second, the team had to consider the needs and wants of their clients so as to provide a more unique and personal experience to their small wine cellar. This of course is why we decided to add a built-in cigar humidor since they are cigar smokers.

Getting into the Construction Details of this California Wine Cellar with Cigar Humidor

Once the team was able to get all the details about what needed to be done to build the wine cellar, they began with the construction. To stay with the modern design of the house, they installed a wide frameless glass with two glass panels as the housing and cover of the wine cellar. The frameless glass perfectly displayed the luxurious wine collection as well as made the space look even bigger. On the left side, they placed a glass door as the welcoming area that greets people inside the cellar and into the wine collection. Polished chrome wine pegs were installed on the walls to rack the wines and create a modern minimalist feel with its stainless steel finish. A LED light was installed within the wall interiors where the wines were racked. The LED light illuminated and beautifully displayed the wine collection.
This type of lighting system is new in the market and the team was very enthusiastic to be able to use it in this particular wine cellar project. The light that illuminates through the wall is called the Lutron system and it’s a very new technology. It creates a dynamic lighting perfect to create an ambient environment in indoor spaces without adding heat. The way the wines are positioned as well as the Lutron lighting system that illuminates them, gives this perfect modern visual illusion that makes the wine bottles look like they are floating, adding more to the modern minimalist vibe of the wine cellar. At the bottom, a reveal rack was installed for more wine collection display in a more easily visible way.

The team from Coastal had to make sure that they met every goal for their client. That is why they incorporated a large cigar humidor into the custom cellar, in order to add a more personalized and unique touch to the space. While cigars can be regularly stored in ordinary storage boxes and cabinets, the team made sure it blended well with the modern wine storage technology in the wine cellar they built. They created a designated storage display in the center of the cellar for the cigars. The cellar was built using polished glass framed in stainless steel. They then installed a humidor system.
The cigar storage cabinet was designed so as to allow air to circulate and keep the “sticks” in perfect condition. Just as they needed a wine cooling system for the wines, they team also needed to include a separate humidor with a humidifier to properly store the cigars. Wines require different room temperatures from cigars so it was an optimal solution to separate the two and provide each with their own cooling and humidifying system.
The cigar humidifier system installed was from Designers Group member US Cellar Systems. It effectively regulates the flow of humidity throughout the cigar cabinet. While the normal humidifier requires almost daily maintenance, the team made sure the unit they installed automatically does the job with little check-ups required. The construction team basically tapped cold water into the humidor system so there is an automatic water flow in case the water level in the filter runs down. It keeps the humidity at around 65 – 72% and temperature stored at 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
