Another luxury wine cellar display became the focal point of a high-end home in California. It was designed and built by Steve Pantalemon and his team at Coastal Custom Wine Cellars. Combining wood and glass elements in the design helped them create an impressive wine display in a minimalist way. Read on to learn more about the features of this transitional wine cellar.
Captivating Luxury Wine Cellar Display in a California Home
A luxury wine cellar display located between the dining area and kitchen is the focal point of a California home. Coastal Custom Wine Cellars created a tasteful design for this glass wine cellar, which is now an art piece in the home and provides easy access to our client’s wine collection. Grabbing a bottle of wine to serve the guests during a wine-tasting party or any gathering will be easier and more convenient.
The Coastal team created a transitional design to complement the existing décor of the space and achieve the look the owners desire for their wine room.
Designing the Racking to Achieve a Luxury Wine Cellar Display
Designing the wine racks is a crucial step in wine cellar construction. It must be carefully thought out to ensure the client’s needs are met. In this project, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars installed an elegant wine storage system made from wood.
After making a thorough assessment of the client’s requirements, the design specialist of Coastal Custom Wine Cellars created a design proposal. After the approval from the homeowners, the construction started. The result was impressive!
Wine Rack Features of the Luxury Wine Cellar Display in a California Home
The racking features of this luxury wine cellar display are very inspiring. Despite the small space, Steve and his team did an excellent job designing the wine storage system. They made sure it was aesthetically pleasing while maximizing the capacity of the small space. This small wine cellar can accommodate up to 616 bottles!
The semi-symmetrical (L-shaped) wine racks occupy the back and right walls. The wine racks were made from Alderwood and applied with a dark stain to achieve a classy appeal and create a good contrast with the light brown wooden back panel. Alderwood can also be left unstained or unfinished and still look beautiful. It is also known for its resistance to the highly humid conditions in refrigerated wine cellars.
Back Wall
Upon entering the wine room, you will be greeted by wine racks consisting of square bins on the sides of the top section. These bins store the bottles on top of one another in a cork-forward orientation. Between the bins are column wine racks. The middle section consists of three levels of display rows that pitch the bottles at an angle. At the bottom section, you will find a single-deep cork-forward wine rack flanked by two diagonal wine racks.
Right Wall
The right wall is shorter than the back wall. Coastal incorporated the same racking styles found on the other wall with a slight difference. The wine racks at the top are all rectangular bins, which can also be used as storage for wine cellar accessories and accouterments. Both ends of the racking are horizontal wine racks that hold the bottles with the labels facing out.
Functional Tabletop
The tabletop placed at the center of the room was a perfect addition to the wine cellar. It provides a place for decanting and serving wine and a storage space for wooden cases. It is also made from Alderwood.
Wine Cellar Cooling Unit
The wine cooling system is an essential part of a wine cellar. Seeking professional help will ensure that the proper sizing and installation are done to prevent wine storage problems in the future. Wine needs a stable environment where the temperatures range between 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity levels between 60 to 70 percent.
In this wine room construction project, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars utilized a split wine refrigeration system from Wine Guardian. It offers a quiet operation because the condenser was ducted outdoors. The ducting system helps eliminate the noise coming from the motor and cooling fans. No one wants to hear any mechanical noise while drinking his or her favorite vintage. The evaporator is in a soffit just above the ceiling, so no equipment is visible inside the luxury home wine cellar.
Glass Walls and Door
The glass enclosure made the residential wine cellar look like an aquarium at the center of the house. Its location is perfect because it provides a beautiful view of the wines from the dining area.
Glass installations in climate-controlled wine rooms have technical requirements. Master builders know and understand glass is a factor that affects the room insulation and cooling efficiency of the wine cooling system.
In this project, and as always, the Coastal team used ¾-inch thermally insulated glass panels. Insulating the door and glass walls will prevent condensation build-up and temperature fluctuations that interfere with the efficiency of your wine refrigeration system and can damage your wine’s quality. Sealing the wine cellar plays a vital role in preserving the desirable characteristic of your wines.
