Eco-Friendly Custom Wine Rooms with Wine Barrel Features
Building unique custom wine rooms is fun for master builders like Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, Wine Cellar Specialists, and Blue Grouse Wine Cellars. With many years of experience in the construction industry, they understand the wine storage needs of every client. Their offer wine storage solutions that are both practical and exceptional.
Nowadays, adding eco-friendly features to homes is increasing in popularity. Using reclaimed wine barrels in designing residential wine cellars offers aesthetic and functional benefits.
Their passion and creativity for creating outstanding wine cellars helped them complete impressive jobs helping wine collectors create unique wine displays in their homes.
Wine barrels are essential in aging and fermenting wine. When aged in wine barrels, the flavor, texture, and color of the wine will be enhanced and infused with some hints of spice, cream, vanilla, or caramel.
Oak wine barrels have a life expectancy of about three to five years on average. After serving their purpose, the used barrels are thrown into landfills or sold as firewood. Master builders have developed ways to reuse them into wine cellar accessories or components.
Wine Barrel Flooring: a Trend in Designing Custom Wine Rooms
Wine barrel flooring is one of them. More homeowners choose this environment-friendly option because of many reasons. One of these is the old-world charm it adds to custom wine rooms.
How Wine Barrel Flooring is Made for Custom Wine Rooms
The reclaimed wine barrels are broken into long strips with a thickness of 5/8 inches and random lengths and widths. The planks are micro-beveled to hide unequal heights and other imperfections.
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars uses the tongue and grove technique to create sturdy flooring. The team installs a vapor barrier before nailing or gluing the flooring. The three styles of wine barrel flooring are Cooperage (made from the top and bottom parts of the barrels), Stave (made from the vertical pieces of wood on the sides of the barrels), and Fusion (made from the interior of the barrels)
Unique Home Wine Cellars with Wine Barrel Flooring
In one of Coastal’s projects, they created a wow-worthy design for a home wine cellar with a tasting room. The installed Cooperage wine barrel flooring from Fontenay exhibits cooper stamps, which include the contents of the barrels and the name of the vineyards. No two planks are the same, so every Cooperage wine barrel flooring is unique. The beautiful wine barrel flooring adds a vintage feel to the custom wine room.
Other features of the custom wine room include the various racking styles combined to create a striking wine display. Before entering the wine cellar, you will have to pass by the wine-tasting room with custom cabinetry with a tabletop.
Another wine cellar flooring project was completed by Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, also a member of the Wine Cellar Designers Group. The wine room is located in the basement of the client’s home.
The design specialists combined wood and metal to achieve an impressive wine display. They installed Cooperage wine barrel flooring, which looks great with the tastefully designed wine racks. The transitional wine cellar has metal wine racks installed on the right wall and wooden wine racks on the back wall.

Adding wine barrel racking to your wine cellar will enhance the aesthetic value of your property.
We recommend this wine storage system for homeowners who want a distinct feature in their wine cellar. Unlike standard wood wine racks, the wine barrel racks have a convex curvy appearance due to the shape of the barrels.
Impressive Basement Custom Wine Cellar with Wine Barrel Racks
Wine Cellar Specialists has completed award-winning custom wine rooms. In one of the projects they completed, Wine Cellar Specialists built a passive wine cellar, which naturally has a cold environment. Because of this, a wine refrigeration system was not required.
The team installed wine barrel racks consisting of mixed racking styles. The wooden planks used were made from the part of the wine barrels consisting of distinctive marks from the metal bands or hoops used to hold the wine barrels intact. The bottles are displayed with the cork facing out. The wine barrel racks retain some of the aromas of the wine previously held by the barrels.
